Nikon announces Q1 profit, but predicts larger full-year loss
Nikon Corp., Tokyo, Japan, announces an unexpected surprise quarterly profit after offsetting weak demand for its chip equipment with cost cuts, but still forecasts bigger losses this year.
Operating profit was 730 million yen ($7.68 million) for the first quarter, compared to last year’s 28.7 billion yen profit. For the full financial year ending in March 2010, Nikon, predicts an operating loss of 30 billion yen, lowered from its previous forecast of a 12 billion yen loss.
