After the decision of the German technology group, Jenoptik AG, Jena, to withdraw from the professional medium camera business and to cease operations of its subsidiary Sinar AG, Feuerthalen, Switzerland, Sinar products will be marketed by a newly formed independent company. Effective July 1, 2009, the production of Sinar professional camera systems was separated from Sinar AG under the terms of a management-buyout and integrated into Femron AG, Feuerthalen, Switzerland. Effective Oct.1, 2009, the newly-formed Sinar Photography GmbH will take over research, development, distribution, service and support for all products of the Sinar brand. Under the management of Stephan Faessler (CEO of Tekno AG, Zurich, Switzerland) and Erich Frefel (director, marketing and sales). During the next few months, Sinar Photography is to be merged with Tekno AG, a company distributing Sinar products in Switzerland. According to a press release, the whole unit will be moved to new premises in Zurich by end of the year.
The new company will continue service and support for the current Sinar range, including maintenance and guarantee services for all Sinar professional camera systems, digital backs and the Sinar Hy6 and Leaf-AFi bodies. Jenoptik will continue to supply Sinar Photography with digital one and multi-shot camera backs. The company also said it would continue the Sinar-eXposure software, but also plans to open its camera platforms to work with digital backs offered by third parties. The distribution channels for Sinar products will remain unchanged.
