Time spotlights “Eyeborg” seen first at 6Sight

At 6Sight 2008, filmmaker Rob Spence describes his plan to embed a wireless camera into his eye socket.
The Nov. 23 issue of Time magazine features Rob Spence, a Canadian filmmaker, who was listed 43rd in the publication’s Inventions of the Year feature. Spence, who damaged his right eye at age 9, is now looking for ways to embed a wireless digital video camera into his eye socket.
Sound familiar? Spence launched his campaign at the 6Sight Future of Imaging Conference in 2008, featured in the January, 2009, issue of PMA magazine.
According to the Time item: “With the help of Kosta Grammatis, John Polanski, Martin Ling, Phil Bowen and camera provider OmniVision, he is attempting to replace his prosthetic eye with a battery-powered, wireless video camera, thereby making himself into an ‘Eyeborg,’ with the power to record exactly what he’s looking at as digital video.
Also, Time article also featured the FinePix Real 3D digital camera system from Fujifilm U.S.A. Inc., Valhalla, N.Y., which was a featured technology showcase at this year’s 6Sight conference, held least week in Monterey, Calif.
