In memoriam: Oscar Zweig

Oscar Zweig, 91, who founded Penn Camera in 1953 with two of his brothers, died Jan. 26 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Although he retired in 1971, the business, now a Washington-area chain, is still run by the Zweig family.

Zweig served in the Army Air Forces as a navigator and co-pilot during World War II, on missions over France and Germany. His decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart and six awards of the Air Medal.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma Garfinkel Zweig; three children, Larry,  Bruce and Maxine Zweig; a brother; and a granddaughter.
