Another new Nikon adds swiveling LCD to SLR line

Is it just us, or have the top camera makers announced a much higher-than-average number of new models in the second half of 2012? And while the deluge has abetted, the debuts have not stopped completely: The D5200 is a full-scale entry-level model that enables flexible expression, Nikon says, thanks to a side-hinged vari-angle LCD.

The camera has a 24-megapixel CMOS sensor and 39-point autofocus system — and an image-processing engine that’s the equivalent of the one built into Nikon’s D4 flagship camera, the company says. The side-hinged vari-angle monitor also first showed up on the D5100.

But the new entry-level model “meets photo enthusiasts’ demands for full-scale photography capabilities,” the company says. The US price was not announced, although Europe’s was: €899.

Also, with optional wireless remote controllers, the camera can be run from a smart phone or tablet.
