Fathead turns to Detroit Labs’ AR app

Fathead AR app pre-views how a graphic looks on a wall.

Fathead LLC, the Detroit, Mich.-based marketer of licensed sports and entertainment graphic products, launch of the Fathead Big Shot app, enabling shoppers to “try” before they buy. The augmented reality (AR) app lets consumers see on their iPhone how a life-sized, adhesive wall graphic will appear on their wall. The Big Shot app was created by Detroit Labs, a Detroit-based tech company.

Using a printable target, users can virtually display the Fathead on their phone, illustrating how the graphic would look on their wall before purchasing. The image is viewed by holding the phone up to the target, and users can then share that photo via email, text and social media, or be taken to the Fathead website to purchase the graphic. Users can also stand next to the target to give the appearance they are posing with their favorite Fathead and share photos directly from the app on Facebook and on Twitter.

The Big Shot app currently features more than 70 top-selling Fathead from categories including the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA College, Disney, Super Heroes and more. The app is available now in the App Store for iPhone and iPad users, with an Android app next.


Fathead unveils Muhammad Ali murals

Fathead, Detroit, Mich., a provider of officially licensed sports and entertainment graphics, launched four new murals of “The Greatest” boxer, Muhammad Ali. They include a black-and-white photo of Ali’s underwater training session, shot by underwater photography pioneer Flip Schulke. Also included in the collection are three works of famed pop culture photographer, Joe Petruccio, that  captured The Champ in all his “Float Like A Butterfly, Sting Like A Bee” glory.

In all, Fathead offers six images of Ali in various sizes with more slated for release in 2011.

Fathead wall graphics are bold, colorful, life-size images of sports and entertainment stars. Fathead products are designed with a special adhesive backing that enables them to be moved from wall to wall with no damage to the surface.

Fathead acquires Gamer Graffix, expanding product portfolio and retail presence

Fathead LLC, the Livonia, Mich.-based wall graphics supplier, launched new product offerings and categories recently acquired from top skins provider, Gamer Graffix. The acquisition allows Fathead Skins to enter the growing market of designer skins for handheld and console gaming units, gaming controllers, mobile phones, laptops and other personal electronic devices, the company said.. Fathead also acquired seven employees, and most of the company’s licenses, trademarks and intellectual properties, including its unique protective epoxy doming technology. The acquisition purchase price was not disclosed. Fathead will utilize Gamer’s former Providence, R.I., headquarters as an additional base of operations while the company continues to merge the newly added products onto Fathead.com and in select retail outlets.

Fathead launches sweepstakes and first “talking” Fathead with Dick Vitale

Fathead, Livonia, Mich., a provider of sports and entertainment graphic products, launches the 2nd annual “You’re A Winner Baby” Sweepstakes in partnership with Dick Vitale’s website, DickVitaleOnline.com.

Fathead also announces two new images of the legendary and enthusiastic Dick Vitale, timed for  March Madness, and debuting unique Fathead technology which enables Vitale’s image to “talk.” With the wave of a special pen, the Dick Vitale image exclaims signature phrases, like “Diaper Dandy,” “PTP’er,” “Dipsy-doo, Dunk-a-roo” and of course “It’s Awesome Baby!” The talking Dick Vitale Fathead Jr. is the first of its kind.

Kid Rock is first Fathead music artist

Fathead, Livonia, Mich., announces the launch of a music category and has chosen rock and roll superstar, Kid Rock, as the first musician to kick off the Fathead music roster.
