5 Things To Consider Before Buying The Best Camera For Real Estate Photography

  1. The focal length of the lens. This is the distance between the center of your camera and its point of focus. A wide-angle lens has a short focal length whereas a telephoto lens has a long focal length.
  2. The shutter speed of the camera. This is how fast your camera can take pictures. If you are photographing a moving object, then you need to have a fast shutter speed otherwise, it will appear blurry in the picture. On the other hand, if you are taking pictures of something that does not move quickly like buildings or land, then you do not need such a fast shutter speed because it will be too expensive to use up so much film or memory on something that doesn’t move much in one second time period.
  3. The aperture/f-stop setting on your camera as well as its size or focal range determines how large your depth-of-field (the area in focus) will be on any given photo taken by your camera, and also how much light gets into your lens while taking that photo. Too wide an aperture/f-stop setting results in poor image quality with soft images and too little depth-of-field; conversely too narrow an aperture/f-stop setting results in poor image quality with sharp images but too little depth-of-field (and therefore too little information captured about the scene).
  4. Camera weight is important for real estate photographers because they must carry all their equipment up and down stairs and walk long distances. They should choose a lightweight camera that is easy to carry around for several hours at a time.
  5. The ISO setting on a camera determines how sensitive it is to light, i.e., how fast it can take pictures in low-light situations (such as inside buildings or at night). The higher the ISO setting, the faster the shutter speed and therefore the more expensive the film or memory card will be used up in one second time period. Also, the higher the ISO setting, the more grainy/noisy your photos will be when they are developed.
