5 Things To Consider Before Buying The Best Garmin Chart Plotter

  1. Resolution: The resolution is the number of pixels that are available on a chart plotter. The higher the resolution, the more details will be displayed on an image. A chart plotter with a resolution of 1,600 x 1,200 pixels can display an image with a pixel size of 2.5 inches. This means that if the resolution is high, you will be able to see the details very clearly on your chart plotter’s screen.
  2. Density: Density indicates how many digits are displayed on a single line in a chart plotter’s screen. A density of 100 is equal to one pixel per inch and 1000 is equal to one pixel per millimeter or 1/10th of an inch. So, if you have chart plotters with high resolutions, they will have small dots representing each digit while smaller dots are used for numbers less than 10 digits long.
  3. Screen Type: There are two types of screens present in today’s charts – LCD and CRT-based screens. LCD screens are better as they can display brighter images than CRT ones and they also consume less power than CRT screens do while displaying images on them. However, LCD screens cost more than CRT ones do and they also tend to get scratched easily as compared to CRT screens which don’t scratch easily when exposed to hard objects like keys or other sharp objects, etc., which makes them more durable in comparison to CRT ones which are not durable at all when exposed to such objects.
  4. Memory: Chart plotters usually have a lot of memory which is used to store charts and other data related to them. The memory is important because if it gets filled up, one will not be able to store any new charts, and one will have to delete the old ones before storing new ones on the chart plotter. It is also possible for the chart plotter’s memory to get full so that even when there are still some free places in it, you will not be able to save any new charts as well as existing ones in it.
  5. Memory Size: The size of the chart plotter’s memory is also very important as it determines how many charts can be stored on it at a time and how many free spaces are available for storing more charts in addition to those already saved on it. Chart plotters with high memory capacities have more free spaces available for saving the charts and they can save more than one chart at a time as compared to those which have less space available for saving these charts or even none at all which means that you will either have to delete some of your existing charts or keep visiting your local marine store every now and then in order to replace them with new ones every now and then if you want them saved on your chart plotter’s screen.

The Last Line

The above-mentioned factors are the most important ones which determine the screen size, memory capacity, and type of screen that a chart plotter will have. It is also important to note that these charts have been listed in order of priority, so it is better to go for the best one first and then buy another one that has a better quality screen or memory in order to be able to save more charts on it.
